When I worked at Ford in the early ‘70’s, I remember the dealers were debating on what it meant. It’s a trim level, back then the car line had an XL and that meant extra luxury so these guys surmised that XLT meant extra luxury truck, works for me.
If the "xl" in xlt stands for extra luxury then what does it stand for on the xl model which is the base model with no frills? I don't think it stands for anything. Ford just picked some arbitrary letters like everyone else and went with it. MO
