Possible 4wd engagement problem

Has anyone had a problem with the 4wd hesitating when engaging or disengaging? I flipped the switch from 4w hi to 2w hi yesterday and I hear the relay click and the light goes out, but 4w hi is still engaged. I put the truck in 4w lo and then back to 4w hi then 2w hi and 4w disengaged. Today, I switched from 2w hi to 4w hi and it hesitated before engaging. Is my engagement motor going out/need lubrication or could cold weather have an affect on it?

I always engage mine with the truck moving and 2 wheel to 4 wheel high engage and disengage right away 4 wheel low I usually have to stop put my truck in neutral or park and engage and disengage it a few times before it changes.

My Ranger used to do that all the time. I would click it off, the light would go out but when I turned onto the pavement I could feel the front end pulling. It always let go after a 100' or so. I called the dealer once and the service guy said it was normal.
