Speedo Cable Removal

All right guys.....I want to pull my dash cluster to do a couple of little things, but I am having an issue with getting the speedo cable off the back. I can't get the cluster out enough to see how it clips on. Does anyone have a pic or can explain how it is supposed to unclip? I just don't want to brake it and cause more work for myself. Vehicle is an '88 E250. Thanks

I have a 89 F250, on mine there was a white retainer you have to squeeze to get it off.

There's a round plastic deal on it, and you have to tilt it to the side and it will release a hook, and will slide right out. I can't seem to find a good photo of it, but there will be two straight parts on the plastic, tilt it against those, it acts as a "spring" to hold it on.

Thanks. I could feel the straight part and clips you are talking about. I am going to clean things up. Maybe repaint some of the parts and the replace all the bulbs with led ones. Do you happen to know how many bulbs are in the gauge cluster?

Six I believe, but I could be wrong, those may be just the illumination bulbs, and not the CEL, ABS, and blinker lights.
