light duty trans
In a 84-85 F150,302,4X4,It has a aluninum trans that looks like a toploader 4spd but the shifter comes out the top cover.It's a light duty OD trans.Can some one tell me what that trans is called.Currently has a NP435 but i want the OD back for the gas mileage

You're correct, the Mustangs used the SROD. In a truck they are called a TOD (Toploader Over Drive). The internals are the same between the two, but the shifter is different. I believe it is made by Mazda. I had the same one in a '84 F150.
There should be a tag on the drivers side of the trans with all of the model numbers.
