Diagnostic help - multiple codes - plug issues
Codes: P0133 B1S1, P0430 CAT B2, P0303 CYL 3 MISFIRE, P0304 CYL 4 MISFIRE
I figured that I needed to fix the misfire first and the other codes may come back around. So I've replaced the coil pack (6 pack type - not COP), new motorcraft plug wires and a set of Autolite 605's.
Truck would misfire on cold start and it would hesitate when accelerating in a low gear. You pretty much had to baby it on the interstate to keep it from choking down. Last weekend, I replaced the wires and coil and there was a huge difference. No more hesitation, and only one brief misfire at cold start all last week. So I drove it last week thinking the computer would re-learn and maybe I'd get a different set of codes. Nope.
Today, I replaced the plugs and I'm going to leave the battery disconnected to reset the memory on the computer. We'll see what codes come next.
After all of that background I get to my question;
I pulled the old plugs out and I noticed that there's a good amount of oil on the plugs, both below the threads and on the threads. #3 plug was the worst looking of all as far as used plugs go. I'll attach a pic so you can see what it looked like.
My question is about the oil on the plug. Is that normal or is that a sign of a leak somewhere?
Any help is appreciated!
However your not realizing the CATS are in trouble and Ox sensors are in trouble.
Looks like contamination or the cats had burned raw gas from the misfires and melted the sensors and ruined the cat on that bank and may be restricting the exhaust.
Now a big expense to replace a cat assembly. The P0430 code.
Bottom line is never never run a motor with known misfires.
Good luck.
