i have a 97" 4.2L it is hard starting cold, replaced battery, plugs ands wires, after replacing plugs and wire engine light came on and it runs very ruff and no power, the codes tell me therte is a miss on cyl. 4 & 6, the coil is good and i have spark to the plugs, also the fuel pressure is right where it should be , so could i have 2 bad plugs?? me and the mechanic i talk to about it are at a loss?? do you guys have any suggestions?? of what i should try ar what it could be??
I wonder if you have the spark plug wires on the right terminals on the coil. Lots of people get fooled by these.
On the passenger's side of the coild the wires are in order.....1,2,3. On the driver's side they go 5,6,4.
yes i saw that and i have checked it 10 times the diagram above is the way i have it as long as the cyls. are 3 6
2 5
1 4 i talked to a guy who said it could be my plug gap i have .036 and it needs to be .052-.056 so i will reset that and see what happens other than that i'm out of ideas if you have any more thoughts feel free to let me know
ok i rechecked the wires they are good, i had one bad plug for sure, the metal tab was melted part way off, why i don't know, my engine light is still on, but the codes haven't been cleared yet, so i'm gonna see if i still have the same codes again, lean and missfires, etc. i still don't seem to have any top end power at all it still seems to idle to low, and there is a almost sucking noise and a hesitation when i put the throttle down on it , this is becomming a real pain, does anybody have any suggestions at all i'll take anything! its a 1997 4.2L f150 with 125,xxx on it! before i did the plugs and wires it ran really good for a 6 cyl. 4.2L it just started really hard in the cold, really hard!
The melted plug is a good indication of a timing or lean problem. I still think you have a vacuum leak but problems like this can be very hard to diagnose on here.
