Mystery Problem

I was on the Hwy doing 80 when I heard a brief sound like high pressure being relieved sounding like it came from the left front (window was slightly down). My radio reset, the brake a ABS light came on and the cruise control quit.

The truck continued to run fine. No Check Engine light, no trouble driving or shifting. The two lights are still on and cruise control is still dead.

I can't find any loose hoses (I'll look again when the sun comes up) and I can't see anything amiss under the hood. I hooked up my auto enginuity device, but it tells me nothing except cruise control module was not responding.

What the heck happened?!?!?! What was the noise? Why did it affect the radio and why did it affect the brake light and ABS light?

HHMMMM !!! my first Thought would be check your brake lines for any breaks... I heard that one time on my 58 and it was a break line that ruptured and started misting and spraying up into my manifolds, But still doesn't explain your cruise control. HHMMMM !!! Also check if you are dragging a cable from your cruise contol I have seen them for whatever reason coming undone. Hopefully someone else can give you an answer. GOOD LUCK !!!!

Brakes are just fine. Same travel, same braking power.

But I was able to start the truck. I'm about to go out into the cold, cold, morning and inspect everything I can find. The noise that I heard has got to be a vacuum thing, but it was temporary. It was like disconnecting the compressor hose from the compressor without bleeding it down first. If I could identify where that came from I would be on my way to fixing the problem.

Well, this while thing would be a LOT easier if I had a proper manual. Chiltons and Haynes SUCK!

I had seen a post somewhere in here for online manual subscription with real shop manuals. I tried a search but I'm not getting the results I need. Any pointers to the manuals?

The problem is solved.

It took a subscription to ALLDATAdiy.com but at least I was able to locate the problem and fix it. Fuse #14, 10Amp was blown.

Still don't know what the noise was. But I just got done driving it down the Hwy and everything is OK. Can't do 80 yet (too many cops today and I had a beer in my cup holder) but I'll check that as soon as I get the chance.
