just found a 351c 1973 to be rebuilt. what can be done to the engine to get more hp/tq than stock 168hp? is it worth it or not ? just want to rebuilt and sell it back to have money to finish the 400 project.
first question is what are you going to do with it and application! I personally like the cleveland and will build another. 400 ford great engine but aftermarket con rods not available. have to basically do a 434 from tim meyer for bullet proof btm end. cleveland lots of part for btm end bulletproof. not hard to make power with a cleveland and con rods pretty stout and some arp bolts. 7000rpm not hard to do with stock rods prepped up. good luck and chat later.
. Some KB flat top or mini-domed hypereutectic cast pistons plus a mild performance cam/lifters/springs (214/214 - 234/244 duration range @ .050" lift) should get the 351C right up into the 350 - 450 grossHP range easily (163 is netHP) of a muscle car engine... remove the air injection bosses blocking the exhaust ports if it has those... add a 4bbl. carb./intake and headers, or let your purchaser do that part... beware of general 'rebuilder' pistons, many have an undesirable lower compression height...
. Only need to convert your 400 into a 434 if looking for over 450 HP or so from it... otherwise, follow same formula as 351C above (using TMI/modified KB 351C pistons)...
