The junk yard near my house has a one ton 1995 Ford with a 460 in it. It has Thorley headers installed on the truck. The price Including core for both sides and the y pipe would be $75. Do you guys think if they aren't cracked and look in decent shape its worth the risk, or should you always buy new for something like that?
I'm not sure what it would cost you. If you can find a place locally that can do it that would be best for cost I'm sure. There's a place I can go locally and they quoted me about $100 to do a pair, guaranteed for life to not lose the coating and rust.
Oh, I had assumed they were just painted steel. The paint never lasts past the first heat cycle, but if they are already ceramic coated $75 is an absolute steal.
I've never heard of a core charge on manifolds, but I guess it is what it is. I'd take a good look at them near the flanges, make sure there's no holes or damage, and give it a shot. If they're coated then even better. I've heard good things about Jet-Hot ceramic coating if they need to be done though.
