Have a 2005 F-150 4x4 SuperCrew, got 308000km on the odometer. I know about the valve timing issue, but also read that it wouldn't cause any major problems if left alone, so I did, till now...
took it on a good hot trip today, had to stop and put more washer fluid in (I am in north central Alberta, Canada), left the engine running and heard this horrible knocking coming from the right (sitting in the drivers seat) front of the engine. I am a Dodge guy from back in the day, but not a lot of experience with Fords, and now I own one. Will this nasty knock be a result of the VVT or do I have a connecting rod bearing going? Checked the oil, it was good. Let it cool down, sounded like the normal valve timing issue till it got warm again and back to hammering like it was going to grenade. Any feedback would be helpful. At the moment I am looking for another pickup.
