Knocking with timing at 13
On a 302 engine I rebuilt, I am getting some knocking coming from the bottom end of the engine. At first I thought it was the timing, which was set at 10, but I backed it off to 13 and it still knocks
It goes away when the engine warms up.
Any ideas?

Should I back the timing off to something before 10? I put a new crank kit in it, with all the proper sized bearings. However, about 200 miles after putting it back in the truck the oil pump went out on the highway, so I'm worried I already messed up the new bearings.

You should change the crank and bearings now before you damage the caps on mains or rods because you've got some play and possibly all you'll need is new bearings, when the pump failed that would have been a good time to go over the bearings.
