Power Mirror Re-sync

Today I tried to fold in my power mirrors and the passenger side didn't move. I tried it a few more times and sometimes it would move a little each way... The motor runs every time with the switch, so its not electrical and it hasn't hit anything and their isn't any popping noises either so I'm hoping nothing is broken inside. I noticed that i can however fold that mirror manually pretty easily whereas the driver side wont move unless you force it (which i don't do because i know how much these mirrors cost). The only thing I can think of, is that i had my truck at the dealer last week for some work and I wonder if one of the techs folded my mirror manually and threw it out of sync. I know these mirrors can be folded manually but sometimes it can mess up the folding mechanism. What the proper procedure to re-sync these things? I figured i give it a try before heading back to the dealer so they can say i need to spend 1K for a new mirror

Baja, I also had that happen once or twice IIRC just manually fold both mirrors in then get in truck and fold them in w/ the switch too and I think they will be in sync !

use the switch and fold that one that does and then manually fold the other. Then use the switch to unfold. Should sync them back up then.

I tried it a couple times today and it would move a little then stops... I had someone apply sight pressure to help it move and it just binds right up. Something isn't right inside the mirror. It blew the fuse during the second attempt. I have to take my truck to the dealer Wednesday to get a new set of running boards put on, I'm gonna have them take a look.

Keep us posted Baja.
I fold my mirrors constantly, some times even in traffic or with passing Ped. or Bike on the side. Buddy says, dude you are going to wear your motors out.
My reply: That's why you drive a Dodge & I drive a Ford.
I fold my mirrors 'cause I can - HA

Both my mirrors won't fold. They move just a little then stop. Just like OP, its not the switch or motor, its something with the gears or whatnot inside the mirror.
Drivers side stopped working at 9000 miles and pass side worked till a few weeks ago. Truck is 2.5 yrs old and has 25000 miles and sets inside a heated garage when not being used. These mirrors are a joke IMO.

my 08 that I owned for 5 years had the power folding mirrors. Never a problem with them.

I doubt it if ford changed anything in them.

No its been in the low 40's here in NY... I'm thinkin that they were folded manually in way that hurt it at some point. I had these mirrors on my 09 truck and my father on his with no issues so I dont think their a poor design or anything. The truck is going to the dealer Wednesday morning so I'll have wait and see what they can do.

I use mine constantly as well, no problems.
It would be interesting to see what happened to yours.
Good luck!

I don't fold mine in traffic, but I have been known to extend the tow mirrors when approaching a SRW Ram with his mirrors flipped up! You have to figure that at least once in a while one of them thinks about how stupid I am then has a moment of clarity.

HaHa, I think I would have to admit to that one too Matt. Why? Because you can!

Wow isn't this a great thread. Do you love these trucks?

If we were talking 6.0Ls we would all be in the thick of it FICMS, Injectors, HGs EGR Coolers and EGR Sensors and the list went on ....

Seriously though at 7K my drivers side would occasionally not telescope out. Maybe happened three times, I took it in and had the mirror replaced in warranty along with my rear emblem that had a blemish on the chrome rim

Love my truck. I will milk this warranty till it ends.

Have you pursued a warranty claim? Given your mileage and time frame, wouldn't this problem fall under the 3yr/36K?

I use my fold option pretty often. A couple years ago my wife and I were meeting our children and grandchildren at a local eatery, and as I watched my then 9 year old granddaughter running between cars in the parking lot in a hurry to come see grandma, BAM! She practically ripped the top of her head off when she smacked a pickup mirror. Felt so sorry for the kiddo. I try to fold them in for that reason and for those inconsiderate bafoons that will fold it in for you while your out in the north forty while at some big box store.
