Check Engine after Overheating - P1299
I had an issue with my 2008 Ford F-150 last week.
It was around -45 degrees outside and while driving my car it overheated, at first I got a 'reduced power' message on the panel and then the check engine light came on.
I drove it slowly to the next gas station - there was no coolant in the reservoir. So i filled it up (almost 2 gallons).
It ran fine after that but the check engine light was still on. I went to AutoZone to get the code read - it was a P1299. Since they read it, the check engine light is off.
The car is running fine, the coolant in the reservoir is a little below the range.
Do you think it is necessary to bring it to a mechanic?
This happened 1 week ago and so far i drove it around for 3 hours I would say without any problems.
I was also surprised that the check engine light is off now after the guy read the code..
I would. Wonder why it got that low? In the future call a tow truck, continuing on can ruin an engine. The cause of the leak needs to be known to prevent potential additional damage. Good fortune.
