OK so the wife goes to leave for work. she comes back and says the exploder stumbled and then the check engine light came on. My question is where can I get the codes read without having to take it to the stealership? Is there a way to jumper a test point to get the codes to flash? this is on a 1996 Explorer xlt 4.0 Control Trac.
What can cause the light to come on (it's not the gas cap, checked that twice). The truck is running fine not hesitating, stumbling etc... I'm lost, can anyone give me a clue.
Thanks,
Brad
Some parts places (like Autozone) will read your codes for free, in the hopes of selling you something. Get them to read the codes, don't buy anything, and bring the code numbers here and we'll see if we can help you find the problem.
Cowboy, sorry mee's afailude at tipeng. Type one letter wrong and someone always wants to be a smartA$$.
CowboyBilly9Mile What is an exploder? Is it dynamite, a blasting cap, a fertilizer bomb, a pipe bomb, a moltov cocktail, homebrewed TNT or CH4, or something else?
How did that post help me in any way???? Other than to remember there are still ideot's everywhere you look.
Anyway I think my problem has been located. In a thread I read today someone was asking about a coolant bypass valve that was leaking. I had that same problem and replaced the valve, but never thought about the parts that the coolant had leaked onto. A poster to the coolant leak question said he had the problem which leaked coolant onto the sparkplug wires and caused a check eng. light. Come to think of it, it was wet outside, so that might be my problem. I check it out and let you know.
