Im thinking this is the wrong weatherstrip....
Maybe it was right the way you had it in first,If it was the wrong one you would of got it in to begin with. keep trying
I have about 4 different rear windows, the one I have with an aluminum frame won't fit the rubber for a regular window. The alum frame is about 1/2" thick where the glass is 1/4" ish. All the other sliders I have that have no frame will fit the same gasket as a solid window.
As for anyone that says there is only one gasket, that is not correct and I can prove it. Maybe that window is aftermarket, but it does indeed have it's own gasket (referring to mine, yours may be the same).
All of my windows were pulled by me from 78/79 trucks.
I got mine in with the rope trick but now when it rains the little slider channel fills up with water and then starts to spill over on the rear side into the cab!!! I had help from the local glass shop to and they are coming back to help me take it back out and see why it isn't draining and we are going to put a waterproof elastic type sealer under the rubber as well so no water can seep in...
But back to you. Was your truck ever in an accident? Maybe the window is warped but it took us (3 of us) a hour to get mine in the fit was so tight.
Brian 1080 is right about that thick slider gasket, the groove for the glass is like half inch wide. IIRC those were the factory sliders. Don't think you would ever be able to get the factory slider over the flat glass rubber. The aftermarket types we sold and installed all had small fin around outside that fit in the flat glass channel. I don't care for sliders, most will leak at pressure wash and pita to clean. Tinted flat glass for all of mine.
I have never bought the factory slider gasket but they were in the old crash books as a Ford Part. Last flat glass gasket I bought was from Ford but that was 15 years ago and wasn't bad but the prices have went through the roof on Ford parts the last few years. They must have taken a tip from import dealers parts dept. I would just go to salvage yard and pop one out of the newest unweathered truck I could find. Up to 96 on F150.
I would suggest either a obsolete parts supplier, good reputable local glass shop, or steele rubber for a new seal. Why can't you use the old one though?
