Trying to plan what to do about my transmission as I rebuild this truck. I know it looks like I drug it up from the bottom of the ocean, but how can I know what shape it's really in? It came with the truck which hasn't run in 15 years (and I've personally never seen it run). I'll try to figure out how to open it up in a couple of weeks but I won't know what I'm looking at really. Would much be wrong with a manual? What should I look for besides metal shavings, broken gears and dead bodies?(Lol) Any test and inspection tips much appreciated.
Best I can tell is it's the original (64 F-100 2wd 4-speed) T-98... VIN says T-98. Number Dummy and you guys prob know just by looking! Will take some scraping to find the number. (The truck came with a 6 but was replaced w a 292 long before I got it). Looks like rebuilts are pretty pricey, kits are too and I'm probably not the guy to rebuild one so hoping this one is useable as is (wouldn't that be nice!)
My bad, Bill... I have always called the warranty plate the "VIN plate". Guess I'll just peek in there and see if everything is unbroken and tight. Cross your fingers!
&&& "I used Novak and border parts, border parts was a little hard to get parts from but a little less $$$"
Thanks!... That's not as bad as I expected. Wondering if I can do it myself!
You can do it, border sent me two front bearings I didn't catch it until I drove for awhile popping out of gear took it apart again and looked at two much space on the shaft and started looking at the bearings and found that the rear bearing is a little wider than the front my fault ck your parts don't trust any parts guy except ND
