carb top leak
I have a 1973 F250 with a 390. Recently I went to start it and it was running crappy, blowing black smoke everywhere and running choppy. First thing I did was pull the carb on it. The seat for the needle had some crap in it so I replaced it entirely (had it so why not). Put a new power valve in it, new accelerator pump, have a filter that screws right into the carb and connects to rubber 3/8 fuel line. Checked the spark plugs and the threads were covered black. Im starting to wonder if the timing is off, but I doubt it considering it was running beautifully one day and the next it wasn’t. HEI’s don’t wiggle out of place like that over night.
What I’m basically saying is I’m stumped. Just wanted to see if any one has gone through these trials and tribulations, or knows how to fix it.
This truck is my baby. Got it from looking junkyard worthy to looking like I got it off the lot. Was my great grandpas and I’m lucky enough to be driving. Just miss it because it’s been sitting for a month.
