Hello Everyone,
It's been a long time since I've been on here but I'm in the middle of a winter project of head gasket and injector replacement. Truck is an 2004 with 250,000 miles on it. I have ZERO history of the truck before 240,000 miles.
My question is should I replace the HPOP and/or the IPR while I'm "in there"?
A local diesel shop recommended it but after getting a price of around $700 for a Ford remanned unit, I'm questioning it since it's still working but would hate to have to go back in and replace it due to a failure in the future.
Just thought I would ask the FTE community to get your opinions.
It will have REMAN stamped in the pump somewhere if it has been replaced. Take a close look. I had mine apart a couple of months ago and found out it has a reman pump and the reman turbo and 3 new injectors in it. 130K on the clock.

That high pressure oil pump I just put in my truck wasn't stamp remand anywhere on it
I could tell they had ground of some numbers on the side of the pump and restamped it with other numbers but not remanufactured
That bolt holding the high pressure oil pump gear on Was different than the original The remand pump was not a normal hexagon bolt
The remand bolt head was more like a Torx bit
I thought the new high pressure oil pump would have been stamped remanufactured just like yours was but it was not so that's when I noticed the different bolt holding the gear on
I just went through this you can go check my thread out
You should be able to get a high pressure oil pump from the Ford dealer for round $540 or five hundred and twenty dollars from an international dealer all the part numbers and everything are in my thread my turn truck breaking down
All the part numbers are there and all the part numbers for the gaskets you will need are in that thread as well
If it is the original high pressure oil pump You have a lot of miles on that pump and it might be a good idea to change it since you're going to have the truck apart anyways
I'm hoping the new remanufactured high pressure oil pump Has better part inside Then the original one did
My early 04 has the original factory HPOP at 210k of hard use. Also about 3 factory injectors too. Its your choice really. Piece of mind at that mileage and since its open. Comes down to if you can spare the dough or not.
Again, thanks everyone for your input. Sounds like there is a consensus on replacing it and probably will. I just didn't want to spend the money if I didn't have to. My local Ford dealer is giving me 15%-20% discount on parts since I bought the truck there so I'll be near the $540 quoted above.
This leads me to my next questions. Is the Dieselsite billet HPOP for $999 worth it? Are there issues with the Ford part that would make the Dieselsiet HPOP worth spending the extra dough?
well they don't List what Parts inside are Upgraded on the diesel site HPOP
IIRC the LPO check ball is Gone
But I wanted to know if they upgraded the Pistons, checkballs and springs and also wanted to know if they secured the SwashPlate better then the Press fit
But I never found anything out about that^^^Stuff
I believe these 4 or 5 things I mention here are the Main Cause for early HPOP to go out
I ended up with a Ford reman hpop
I assume they have Upgraded the Guts but IDK for Sure
It seams that Ford has gone thru and upgraded Most problematic parts by now on the 6.0L
