Alright I got BOTH rear tires off the ground and got 4 1/3 turns on the yoke. So it's official right? I have a 4.30 LS axle....Please don't lick it, I don't know that i could ever look at my truck the same again.
Yep, sorry I wasn't thinking about the gear reduction with one wheel on the first post. After looking at the thickness of the ring gear a figured it had low gears. Christina is becoming a pro at reading tags. I believe the LS spider housing steps down like yours with the 10.25 rear end (like yours).

Acquired skill from having a truck with so many parts that "should never have been on my truck" in the first place.
so just so i know and make a note of it for future prosperity and parts swapping should it ever grenade, do i have a 4.30 LS 10.25 differential? or a 10.5 differential? or is it still unknown?

You have a 4.30 LS that's for sure. I am not sure how to tell a 10.25 vs 10.5 maybe Dave or Brent call tell you based on those photos? Tag says 10.25 but as I mentioned before I don't show that model was every made in a 10.25. I would still be in the "unknown" column if I had to order a part. Been there done that and returned a lot of parts. Please post a follow up if you are able to figure it out for sure.
I'd say it's probably a 10.5 being that's what's stock under a excursion. It prob has a 10.25 LS in it like mine does. (Came that way, idk who or where it was swapped in)
Here's another pic of the LS.
Your axle has disks and all that? You have pics of the hubs too??
Did you have much resistance when turning the tire with one still on the ground? If it turned easily, your clutches may be worn out.
I replaced the side carrier and pinion bearings shortly after getting my X. I got the parts from Napa and dont think I gave them the tag number, think they used year, make, model(01 2WD) to get the right kit. My tag also shows 10 2. But sadly 373 non-locker. It also has the S410B number on a band tag that wraps around the axle tube.

Yup rear disks, hubs look normal. You're probably right. Weird thing is the tag seems to say it's a 10.25 from factory? I guess i may never know. Hopefully i won't need to know and there wasn't too much damage done....time will tell.

The 10.25 has a larger window to the spiders, look at the one above (10.25), icentrophy's (10.25), and then at yours (10.5). The parts are more expensive for the 10.5's.

Yeah turning the tire took all the force my wife could muster when i counted the turns on the yoke (we did it twice cause i didn't believe her ) When both tires were up it was much easier (could be done one handed)

I can't really tell, my photo is pretty blurry. That was a bad day! But I will take your word for it. Ford did some funky stuff with parts and tags on these 2000 trucks.
I've been wanting to decode mine for a while now but just forgot. This thread persuaded me to grab the tag that has been sitting in my toolbox for over a year. I removed the tags after I changed the cover to the OEM finned aluminum.
Mine show "V" on the top row. Anybody know what that represents? I thought all Ex came with "S" Sterling axle.
