i just bought a 1975 9000 rollback wrecker. just a few quick questions. it has a 361 engine is this a fe engine ? do any of the fe engine parts fit ? this is a real low mileage truck ( 70 k ) but i would like to up grade a few items exhaust and ing system. any ideas ? thanks for your time. chuck
It is an FT blcok which is very similar to the FE. I don't think you will be able to bolt FE headers to those heads but you would be wasting your money. The FT has less than 8:1 compression and very restrictive heads. You might even hurt performance with headers. You can put FE heads on it and higher compression FE pistons and get a good bit of improvement there. The distributor is slightly larger than the FE but you can buy a bushing from ford so you can run one of the high performance FE distributors. I still believe the pertronix will work in the stock distributor. Your crank is steel instead of cast and has a bigger snout on the front.
The 361 is a FT engine. The pertronix will fit the the distributor. I would install it along with a flamethrower coil and upgrade my plug wires. As far as exhaust improvements , just dual exhaust. The heads have really small valves to promote low end torque and are not going to flow much besides those big stem sodium filled valves cannot take a lot of RPM's before snapping off the heads, keep it below 4000 and you will be safe. FT's are low RPM Torque makers not high RPM horse power motors. Woody
