i have a 2007 f350. it all started out with a number seven cylinder contribution failure. turns out it was the injector so in had the dealership replace it. they did that but its still missing and now they say it has low compression on number seven. the tech thinks it hydrolocked the cylinder amd bent the rod or bent a push rod. they haven't done a direct compression test on it yet they just used the computer. number five injector was also bad but that cylinder is firing fine now. anybody have any info or opinions on what it could be? is the tech right? im really not in the mood to replace a motor.
Bent push rods don't mean you have to replace a motor, just push rods. How did they find out it had low compression with a computer? I would say they need to pull some glow plugs and do a compression check.
if the connectiong rods are bent it would be easier to replace the entire motor. push rods are best case scenario. apparently they can check which cylinder has low compression by using their scan tool. it doesn't show PSI but it shows which cylinder to check. its having a manual compression check done Monday. the tech is also going to check the valve train for abnormalities.

Say what? I would much rather R&R one piston/rod than drop a reman or worse an unknown used 6.0 into a truck. That's like cutting off your hand because you jammed a knuckle.
you're the only person to say it would be cheaper to replace the con rod and piston. I'll have to get quotes from them if that is the issue to see which is best. my engine also has 265000kms on it with original head gaskets so its basically just waiting to die
im also trading this truck in for a newer lariat superduty. so I dont care if a crummy used PSD goes into it. the new truck has a sold sticker on it right now just trying to get this thing up and running so they can give me a good appraisal.
At what mileage do they just die? I will be the second person to tell you that replacing a piston and some push rods is cheaper then a new motor. BTW head gasket issues were worked out before '07 so they should hold fine.
265,000kms is what, like 175,000 miles? You have a serious doom and gloom issue if you think the engine is about to roll over and die.
A single piston can be changed out with the block in-frame. Pulling one head and the oil pan would be a LOT cheaper than a replacement engine. A replacement might be cheaper than short blocking or long blocking because of assembly time, but a single piston isn't going to run up a huge parts bill comparable with a different engine.
well thats good to know. like I said I'll have to get a quote. but yeah, does anyone have any ideas to other things it could be? he said it has some blow by coming out of the PCV valve so I was thinking maybe rings or it just washed the cylinder wall of all its oil amd hasn't been run long enough to get enough oil om the cylinder wall.
And I would be SERIOUSLY SERIOUSLY surprised if you had a bent connecting rod. I've seen 2 bent connecting rods from some serious RPM's but never from a hydrolock. Even then neither showed a contribution code and they were hitting a crank throw. (two different motors). Regardless, it's still WAY cheaper to replace a rod and MAYBE a piston, but I doubt either is damaged from a hydrolock. And these motors don't have a PCV valve. I've seen all different forms of "blowby" from these motors and not have CB codes. If this is the same place that you're trading trucks with I think they are seriously jerking your chain.
I'll have to head over and do some talking if this is the case. i also need a turbo charger as the seal is gone and its pumping some oil into the charge air cooler. donno if that is relevant information. I may get them to put some oil into the cylinder and let it soak overnight and try again I the morning.

Oil in the CAC is NORMAL. That's part of the system design for emissions. It does NOT mean you have a blown turbo seal.
Me thinks someone has run a SERIOUS sales game on you to try and lower the value of your truck.
