Hey guys,
I have a 2012 f-350 with no mods to the motor or exhaust. Today my check engine light came on. After I drove it a bit and parked it sounded like the pumps gears (for the DEF) were grinding along with what I'm assuming urea leaking from the top of the tank. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem in the past. The truck has 89000 kms on it and we had -38 degree weather this last weekend. Is it possible that the pump froze and broke open? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have you filled your DEF tank recently? If so did you fill it right to the top? Overfilling can cause things to break when it gets below 12 degrees.

I bet that is what happened. I have prepaid maintenance and just had the truck serviced last week. When I got it back I could see white streaks from where the technician tried to wipe the urea that overflowed. I didn't say anything at the time because I didn't think it would cause me any grief. Thanks, i will be making some calls.
I had called the one Ford dealership and they told me that it may not be covered under warranty due to being over my km's. What I am going to find out is how something that wasn't even caused by driving isn't going to be covered when it was a Ford service center that over filled the reservoir.
