I posted my 65 Mustang on CL for sale for 13k or trade for a F100 of equal value. Most Mustangs in that price range are not nearly as nice as mine.
Every trade offer made to me has been for something other than a F100 and for something that in my opinion is not a desirable vehicle and has a value of 5-6-7k. One guy tells me his 78 Dodge truck is a rare vehicle that increases in value every day. Another guy wants to trade me a ragged out 40 Ford that needs everything. His boast is that there aren't a lot of totally stock 40 Fords around. A third guy wants to trade me a Chevy truck in a field that ran when parked and he can toss in a grill if that will sweeten the deal.
Looks like Im keeping the Mustang. This summer if I still have it Im adding a/c and changing the wheels, then I guess I will keep it a few more years.
Getting a Buyer can be hard to do. When I sold my challenger I was in the same situation every trade imaginable except what I was looking for. And you never get back what you have into it on most builds so I just took an offer.
Like a Mustang, a Challenger is a very desirable vehicle. Its a matter of waiting for the right buyer. The problem is that there are not a lot of people surfing CL that have 10k + to buy a vehicle for cash. That's why a trade is usually a good option.
I will flip the occasional car on CL but if I have anything of quality I won't suggest trades. Craigslist is the Walmart of ads and it brings out every nut, flake, screwball and trailer trash that thinks his stuff is gold.
Time of year, like selling a home, plays a role as well i'd imagine. I'm looking for a truck and despite lacking any categorical connection to rogue40's posted CL membership (i'm a fairly normal guy) CL seems to be the main place I can find where people are posting. Auto Trader Classics is overpriced and I just don't know of any better sites.
Did you list it in the for sale section of our thread Shadow?
I sold my last car to a classic car dealer in Florida. I sent them lots of quality pictures and the owner made me a fair offer. Some will also put them on consignment and sell them for you. Good luck, Jason
