carb issue please help asap
I just went to move the highboy and it wouldn't start. 7 tries later ot started but can tell something is wrong. Pulled a plug and its frigin black!
New plugs, brand new 428 just broken in 4 miles ago. New holley 770 cfm carb. Never smoked from exhaust.
Why would it be running rich like that? We did accidently have the firing order wrong for a few cranks before we did the break in after fixing the wires. But again never smokes.

Think I solved it myself.... MSD and platinum plugs are a no no... anything over 45 with the msd is a no no according to what msd recommends, and there I have it!
So I will get a regular autolite 45 with the 35 gap and throw them in and that should cure the issue fast.

For whatever reason MSD with ignition control doesn't like the platnum and doesn't give a hot enough spark. I don't know why that is but I read that on a few web pages with people having the same issue. So somehow the $1 autolite works better then the $5 autolite plug.lol
