POS plastic heater control valves!

I am tired of these things, they keep cracking and leaking the last one that I had replaced 2 years earlier broke all four nipples off trying to remove it and it was a bit of pain to get the pieces out of the hoses.

Is there anything wrong with replace the 4 port ones with a two port one?
obviously I would have to connect the other 2 hoses.

Does anyone know where I can get a metal one with a vacuum port?

Just get rid of the thing. Put a complete new section of hose in and forget about the thing. The only thing it does is turn the heat all the way off when you put the dash controls in MAX AC. I had the exact same problem. They would only last a few months and start leaking again. Resist the urge to put in a plastic coupler because they will shrink and you will blow a hose, been there done that. You don't need the thing unless you live in death valley. Plug the vacuum hose with something so you don't have a vacuum leak.

I would love to ditch it completely, but it gets really hot here and I think it makes a difference. I will use a metal coupling or replace the section but I would still like a heater control valve.

You could just put a simple ball valve in there like from lows with some hose barbs on each end. When summer hits just close that valve. I probably went through half a dozen of these crappy valves and several gallons of antifreeze. This was probably the biggest pain in the butt I have had with this truck in almost 15 yrs.

The coolant system on these rangers are the worst..... Plastic pressurized overflow bottles, plastic thermostat housings that its almost necessary to r&R the intake manifold to get too etc, etc.
