Hey guys longtime no post lol. I need some help tho. I started my bronco this morning (-6F*) and she started and ran fine for about 10 min. Then I heard it (was inside getting ready for work) start to sorta huff and miss a little. I went out and hit the pedal and it smoothed out. When I took off for work it started losing power and doing the chug/huff again. It will sit and idle fine for awhile then start getting goofy again then come out of it and seem to run fine but it is an ongoing cycle. Would this be bad fuel (water, gelling)? I did add some stuff to it sunday before it got so cold and it ran fine yesterday. Any help would be really great.
It seems it must have been the cold. It is up to 4F* now (yea heat wave) and she has smoothed out. This is my first experience with real cold temps and a diesel, so please forgive me for this dumb post.
I would still think you may have an issue with moisture. My truck has been running like a great in -14F. No additive in the fuel. I park it in a heated garage at night. Other than that she was out all day plowing.
It may be a moisture issue. My buddy has a 2008 cheby dura turd and it was acting the same this morning though. The inline heater on mine is shot and I don't have a garage. This old girl is outside all the time. Besides she don't fit to most "normal" size garages anyway lol. Some day I will have a barn with a door she will go through and a ceiling high enough to get here up on a two poster lift.
my 7.3 sits outside all winter in Canada and this years been a cold one, -15c or more all winter. mine fires up good and runs great even when its -30 so I think you may have a water or gelling problem, you should check your fuel filter
The filter is new (changed out with last oil change). But I will check it and get some more powerservice for it. Like I said above, that it is above 0 it is running fine.
Do you have the fuel filter with the built in water remover that you drain the water out? The problem might be water in the fuel freezing at a certain temp causing slow fuel suction and loss of power and roighf running
If it was actually water, I would think it would have to get above freezing for that to clear up. Fuel gelling, I guess that could be a possibility. Where do you get fuel?
