v10 skipping

just bought an 01 f350 v10, 40,000 miles, plowing beast, anyways when taking off truck seems sluggish, give it more gas as its fine. At idle there appears to be a skip. There is no check engine lights on,could it be coil pack or even maybe fuel problem? Have done plenty to this beast to get it close to perfect and this motor issue iis it. Any ideas ?
thanks

Congrats on the new truck.

I would start by cleaning your MAF and your IAC.

I always recommend purchasing a scan tool , they are relatively inexpensive and will answer many of your questions .
These are the type of questions , that are difficult to answer on the web.
What Redford said is a good place to start, along with examination of all vacuum lines .
I doubt the coil packs are going bad at 40k miles, but keep in mind the boots are rubber , and will dry out and crack, causing the spark to arc to the head instead.
Boots with springs are around 6 dollars each at most stores.
Always use die electric grease on these parts when changing the boots and when changing spark plugs .

What kinds of things have you done to the engine? Also you may have a misfire code that does not show up for a check engine light, but is stored in the PCM.

I would change the fuel filter since sat it apparently sat. Cleaning the maf and IACV as redford said may help as well. I ran seafoam through the booster to clean my IAC and it helped the surging idle temporarly. A common vacuum line that leaks is the elbow from the throttlebody to the pcv hose and valve. Can cause lean codes and hesitation as well.

Hopefully yoou replaced it with a Motorcraft coil pack. Might be a good idea to keep a spare in the truck as well and check the serpentine belt hopefully its not to dry or anything.

It is rare for the coil packs to go bad with that few of miles.
Personally I would check the boots , more chance of that drying out and arcing to the head.
FYI , you can check these coils , the same way as a conventional coil , to determine their condition at rest.
The standard test with an ohm meter , will not verify a bad coil under load.

I think coil pack went bad because for 40000 miles pretty much all the truck has done is pushed snow, maintenance did not exist for this truck, but now that I own it, it will be good to go
