Question 1951 Ford F-700

I know a guy who has a 1951 F-700 for sale. He wants $1200.00 for it.

It is in good shape, but with the usual things wrong with a 50 year old truck (A Little rust...etc)

I was thinking this would be a neat truck to restore and take to tractor shows, hauling our antique John Deere tractors.

How hard is it to find parts for a truck like this (Body parts...etc) I looked at several catalogs and found stuff for F-100's..etc but nothing for the bigger trucks.

Just curious.

Bill

The parts for the engine and interior and body won't be too hard because most was shared with the f-1. Joblot automotive in NY carries alot of parts for the larger trucks. As long as most of the original parts are there it shouldn't be too hard. But then again I'm no expert on 48-52's but wait till' later today and your bound to get a much better answer than mine. -4speed

Yeah, it's harder restoring the bigger trucks, but not impossible. I would guess the hardest parts to replace would be with the brakes and rear axle (I've got a '50 F-3 myself). You might have luck with salvage yards for body etc., or try http://www.autop.com/ or http://www.all-parts.com/AP5/ for parts searches, to name a couple. Remember, when it's all said and done you'll have a much more unique vehicle!

Hi Bill,

If you want to get some idea of what is available, make a short list of what you think you might need (brake shoes, drums?, rear axle seals, etc.) and then give James a call at JobLot Automotive (718-468-8585) as mr4speedford suggested. James has always helped me out with non-F-100 parts for my F-250.

The fellas are right, most of the front sheet metal will fit, or can be made to fit (fenders for larger wheels and tires). For my F-250, most of the difference from the ubiquitous F-100 were in the rear axle and box. Basically, anything associated with carrying a bigger load. The F-7 might also have differences from the F-1 in the steering gear, brake system, and engine options.

Sounds like a neat project! Keep us posted on what you decide to do.

Hello Bill, I am rebuilding a 1952 F7 right now, while it is far from imposible to do the job it takes alot of time to gather up the neccesary parts, I have probably spent twice as much time hunting for the nessasary parts as I have putting the parts on. However I would not trade this truck(or the experience) for the world, there is just something about the big old truck that makes it all worth it. Garth
