Speedo cable at transmission

How do you remove the speedometer cable from the transmission. I have removed the retainer clip but cant seem to see what holds in the cable. I do see from the ford shop manual, that there is an o ring inside. I cant believe that this alone would be so difficult to remove it. Unless rust is the answer. From the manual it does not appear that there is any other fastener. It is an automatic.

Sometimes it does take quite a bit of effort to make that o-ring let go and come out. Takes a little to get it back in to. I had to yank on my speedo cable pretty good last time to jar it loose.

Dealt with this today . Just kind of wiggle it side to side with outward pressure on it . It will come out . If nothing else find a four year old kid . They can take anything apart .

The o-ring (87036-S94) on the speedo cable prevents fluid from leaking from the trans. Available from Ford, the same one has been used since 1950.

Try constant pulling pressure, not to excessive, and try a rotating or circular motion as you pull. Sounds weird but it will work.

Dry shop rag and the circular motion I stated....

It that does not work, use a shop rag and a #2 flat tip and wrap the rag around the cable and twist the rag with the screwdriver, like making a tourniquet and then pull.

You do not want to crush the outer cable.
