Hello, this is my first post on the forums as i just registered. I've been searching around for some answers to my trucks problems just to pre-diagnose it and get a good feel of what im up against. As we all know, vehicles are tricky. Either way, yesterday i was accelerating to speed on the highway and when i hit about 70 mph my "wrench" light came on and i lost all power in gas pedal. "Limp mode" is what i would assume. Truck idled fine just no power, pulled over, shut off, restarted and good. This is third time in a few months this has happened and i've heard timing chain, throttle body, battery terminals, tune up.. Interesting i know. Thats not all i have a problem with, when i accelerate my engine seems to studder and not back fire but miss fire and lose power and stay steady speed.
It sounds like a sputtering noise, hard to describe. I think thats ignition related, i hate to make myself sound like i know everything when i clearly do not. I also get a grinding noise up to the front passenger wheel and it sounds like my hub isnt locking fully, and it stops when i put in 4wd. Also, 4wd light doesnt come on but i can tell im in 4wd still, and 4wl doesnt seem to work. Im just looking for some people who have maybe heard of these problems.
Read the article/post titled all you ever needed to know about the IWE system that should help you diagnose your 4x4 noise. Sounds like you need the IWE actuator. The wrench light typically means that there is a problem related to the electronic throttle controls and that is what is putting you in limp mode. As for the miss with 93k on it, my first question would be are the plugs original?
Thanks for the info, ill read into it. My plans currently are to baby it for the next week and bring it to my dads shop, since i cant be bothered to ask him even though he is a mechanic. Just how it is. My plan is to clean the throttle body/MAF and read up on some plug removing tips, etc. I have heard how much of a b-- these are to remove without breaking/stripping. But, to answer your question, as far as i know, the plugs are original, i can assume since ive had it since 64k.
You are likely you have a lot of trouble with this if you do not begin by looking at the diagnostic trouble codes with a good scanner. Post the DTCs and we can go from there.
