okay. wrong forum I know but your guys know your stuff and have help me with my truck on many problems. So....for the mechanics listening...my 4.6L engine in my WIFES 1993 crown vic with 110,000 miles is making a noise that reverbs through the air cleaner. It sounds like a continous low whaaaaawww coming from the throat of the throttle body. If I hit the gas and rev the engine it goes away. It also makes the noise while driving at a constant speed low speed unless I rev the engine. I cleaned the throttle body butterfly valve with carb cleaner and removed the oil buildup from the PVC. I have changed the air cleaner also.
I saw a ford technical bulliten on IAC bypass valve moan. I am not sure if this is the problem but it is the only thing I have seen aout a moan coming from the engine. Anybody heard of it or had this problem?
The noise you're describing sounds exactly like what TSB 94-22-4 is talking about. I've seen a few of these. The noise they make would drive me nuts in no time.
Do you have access to the TSB? If not I can give you part numbers, instructions etc for fixing it.
Not aware of the text of either TSB you guys mention, but we had a '97 Expedition w/4.6L that "moaned" after you shut off the engine. That's the only time it ever made any noise and it was definitely coming from the IAC system. Never made any noise once engine was started & running. Then again, with true duals and glass-packs, maybe I just couldn't hear it.
