I have a question on diesel fuel additives. I've been running Opti-Lube XPD, it says it's good for -20 below. We are supposed to go to -13 to -17 tonight with wind chills of -35 to -40. What's my chances of getting gelled up in those kind of temperatures.
I believe you will be ok. I use the power service diesel kleen arctic blend here in Wyoming and no gelling yet. You may also want to drain your water seperator so no moisture freezes or gels inside the housing

Most fuel stations also blend there fuel or even add additive like you are doing in a larger quantity. i have heard that when adding your anti-gel its better to add more than enough than not enough, the theory with that is if you don't have enough it will allow any water present to get further than it should but not protect the pump/injector parts like it should .
Now the latest rumor i have heard from a few people is that over treating with anti-gel can be bad also?. i find this hard to believe but cant say for sure, just hear-say
Well, -15 this morning, the jar I had from draining it Saturday I still had so I put it out last night, no gel, truck ran fine other than it rode like a brick and drinking my coffee was a little tough.
Wind chill will not be a factor in the "gelling" just the REAL temp. Up here in Montana I am running power service diesel kleen arctic blend as well. Never had any "gelling" problem and I have see -35F. My neighbor never plugs his trucks in and they are both diesel. They start everyday without a problem and he leaves them outside. My truck gets a nice heated garage to stay in. Never gets below 32F in my garage.
When really cold I use double the amount of Diesel Kleen(WHITE bottle) and try to keep the fuel tank above 1/2 tank to reduce the possibility of condensation as it sweats. Using more than recommended is not going to hurt anything other than cost. As stated also, I drain the separator before getting into that cold of weather. Of course here in the south, we NORMALLY don't see these types of temps.
