I have a 94 F150 4x4 with the 300/6 EFI and 5 speed tranny. I acquired the truck not running turned out the TFI distributor was bad so i replaced it. It runs ok now but i suspect the timing is off. I originally was planning a 351w swap but want to keep some gas mileage. What kind of bolt on parts can i use without screwing up the computer? Cam swap? I saw on another thread someone recommending Chevy rockers and im assuming this would work with aftermarket cam. It is currently running a suspension lift and three inch body lift with 35s and seems like you can never get to fifth gear. Do I need to drop tire size or/and get lower gear ratio? Looking to get decent mpg and play off road/tow 5000 lb camper but still have a pickup that isn't geared too low for interstate. I can find a ton of tech tips for carbureted sixes but not so much for EFI. Any help would be much appreciated!
Well fuel mileage is definitely a concern but since this is primarily a get through the deep snow vehicle I would say torque and horsepower are the priority along with reliability
Exact same situation here....I yanked my motor to replace the oil pan and internal slave cylinder and was gonna do a cam swap....unfortunately the computer doesn't like anything much bigger than stock so I left it alone.
I got 35's and 3.55's and 5 speed.....I use 4 low off road and plowing, and only use 5th on the highway where the speed limit is 75.
A gear change and/or smaller tires are your best bet, just don't go too low or you'll be revving out of the torque range, ruining your mileage and "lugability"
Tune up and freer flowing exhaust are about it for noticeable improvements.
Thanks for the tips I was planning on headers and dual pipes. Anyone know about swapping V8 injectors from say a 5.0? I read somewhere you can gain hp this way but like you said i don't know how the computer is gonna like it
