I completely agree. A rust free truck has a lot of value to me. And yes, some guys get lucky and find a local rust free truck that needs minimal bodywork for $1500--but it never happens for me. A rust free truck might seem overpriced if you live in an area that has lots of them. I live in central Canada which has a similar climate to Minnesota, most trucks have bad rust here too. If you repair the rust properly, it can end up costing a lot more than buying an "overpriced" rust free one and often once you have done rust repairs on a truck it will begin to rust again in a couple of years.

I have a couple of buddies that have bought trucks from Rustfreeclassics.com Here's the deal, the guy buys trucks/broncos out west that are "pretty" much rust free and ships them back to Indiana. Most of these trucks are on CL, and thats how he finds most of them. He is a guy that is in business to flip them, bottomline. He doesn't do anything to them besides detailing. He is a good guy as far as "used car salesman" goes, but he is trying to make a few grand on selling the "rust free" claim and around here thats a pretty good selling point, regardless of the true background of the vehicle.

I wouldn't feel bad about paying $5000-$6000 for a truly rust free unmolested truck. Figure I could find a half way decent local truck for maybe $3000-$4000 that still needs the usual cab corners, floor pans, doors, and bedsides. Factor in my time and money for repairs and the higher buy in price for a rust free truck doesn't sound bad.

Like I said I only live a few hours from this guy so I'd like to be able to drive the truck home solely because I don't know anyone that has a trailer wide enough to haul a truck on ( just found out my father in laws trailer is about 3" to narrow for a full size) I know this guy just buys them to sell so I don't know how much seat time he spends in these trucks. Would be cool if he would let me talk to the previous owner to find out the history on the truck.

I agree and don't agree. I live in northern MN and my current driver is an 87, it's rusty but my 78 barely has any it has two spots maybe about the size of my fist on the wheel wells, I bought it from a farm in elbow lake for $3500 where it got used and abused. There are deals around the rust belt you just have to look and if it's too rusty then just pass. I passed on a good amount before I found mine just because I didn't want to deal with rusty bolts (and I was sick of "rust free" being people who paint over bubbling rust that I can put my finger through and then say "oh yeah I forgot to tell you about that spot") I wouldn't pay the price of those trucks on rust free classics when I can find a decent one locally on CL and then weld on $200 of patch panels if I want it to be clean.
