Don't Hydrolock the Engine, with that much wet looking Coolent around EGR means , two things
1. Blown EGR COOLER
2. HEADS / Crack in Heads ( hair line).
take PRE Caution .
look at EGR cooler Hose in the Valley
look at Head moister passerger side Block# 7 port
Watch level in Degus ( smell or Test).
DO not Drive the truck .
Now you've got me going. Diesel tech friend is on his way over later today to give it a complete workover. Thanks for the info though, better safe than sorry!
The coolant level in the bottle is where it's supposed to be. Actually a bit higher than I run mine. If it has green coolant in it then you need to get it flushed and out of there.
The P0407 is an EGR circuit code--typically a bad wire or valve. The P0488 is a throttle body code. The EASIEST way to fix that is to unbolt the intake elbow and remove the butterfly (two small screws). The TB was removed from the PCM strategy a LONG time ago but if the butterfly closes the engine will have no power or not run at all.
All that "mess" around the top of your motor is probably from messy oil changes, leaking/bleeding boost tubes, and dirt accumulation. It just needs a bath.

Normally it is great. Just recently have I noticed that once in a while when I go to accelerate from a stop it will "miss" and just rev but not do anything. Someone said this is sometimes a symptom of a dirty EGR valve. Once the techie comes over this afternoon I am going to with his help have it taken off and take a look. Have him check all the CAC tubes/boots for cracks and leaks and take out that throttlebody butterfly while he's there. You'll have NO issues doing that.
Sorry didn't mean to scar you , by the looks of the pics I jumped , Partsman is right Check CAC tubes ,did you clean the EGR Valve and how did it look down in side the port?
3 hours later and the EGR valve will not come off. Tried everything: pulling, twisting, crowbar, crowfoot, etc. Will probably need to try and have someone help me with it. Everywhere online says its so easy a third grader could do it... so I guess I'm going back to school. After reading it says when they are really gummed up they have a hard time coming off, or maybe I was just doing something wrong. The tech couldn't come today, probably later this week.
Twist counter clock wise and use two flat bars pry up. in my albums take a look at what I use they really work good, Yes if it wont pop up its sooted real good it will go make sure you don't bend the ears too bad and when putting the Valve back in don't over tighten , there will be two different size bolts ( pay attention which one) I think the longer one is on the right side
Completely clogged through and SOLID. Hardly any moisture at all, had to use a small screwdriver to push the real hardstuff out and am now working away slowly with a toothbrush and (warm,soapy) water as there was no carb cleaner around. Will let it dry and air out thoroughly before putting it back in. Will post a picture of the inside of the valve later.
I'd still drive it to your uncles to get that stud out.
He has decided he will make the hop out to me on Tuesday since he will be out this way plowing anyway. Confined to the VW Jetta until then, but honestly that's not bad it is a great car.

My friend from our church (the diesel tech mentioned earlier, actually best in our city is the official 6.0 diesel guy at local ford) said that I need to look for moisture in the chamber as an indication to a failing EGR cooler. There wasn't really much moisture on the EGR valve itself, however inside the "receiver" (not fluent on the techobabble) for the valve there was moisture.
Is a little moisture to be expected? It didn't seem like there was a small river down there or anything.
Also, it was really dirty down there, do I need to clean it as well or does it just stay dirty due to all the exhaust flowing through?
Nate, your IAT2 sensor lives. in the same environment as the EGR Valve. Chances are it needs a good cleaning to. It's located behind the upper fuel filter housing and is threaded into the intake manifold. Remove it with a 13/16" deep well socket, use Carb. Cleaner to clean it. Don't get any solvent on the Electrical part of the sensor. The tip of the sensor has 4 little windows in it the top Two windows have little wires in them. Use a pipe cleaner to clean them but be gentle with the wires. If you want more I'll explain how to clean the MAP sensor. Tim
