I had a couple of those magnetic ones once that you stick on the oil pan. It was a 460 and with two of them on all night long it really helped. Did your truck not come with the OEM block heater or is it shot?
We purchased one that went inline heater hose. Problem when Thermostat closes it doesn't circulate the warm water. Then got magnet one and was told it needed to be removed before driving due to it wasn't sealed for weather. Kind of defeats the purpose if I need to lay in snow before I drive the truck. ''
I have seen ones that wrap oil pan but not sure how well they work or stick to an older pan.
Yeah...I had kind of a hokey setup. I had some PVC pipe that fit over the handles with the cords taped to that. I would reach underneath and stick them on. But I work construction in cold Minnesota Winters, so I am dressed in the AM for getting down and doing that b-4 I left. That was years ago and all my trucks present and since then have had the OEM block heaters which are really nice. If you are going to keep the truck a while, maybe put in a block heater or have someone pop out a frost plug and put one in for you......In my opinion they are the best way to go.
I agree with Spotty
Pop out a frost plug and install a block heater
Instructions for placement and orientation
usually come with the heater
We've been getting -35 and -45 with the windchill
factored in and my truck starts great.
Just a note, even after draining the rad you will
not get all the coolant out of the block.
So expect to get a little wet if you choose to do
this yourself
good luck
