Well this morning woke up and it was around 38d, so I pulled my extension cord out and plugged in my block heater. Well after I found out the breaker was tripped, so took care of that and then went to the truck and heard the heater working. Does the heater also warm up the oil or do I need to get a warming blanket around the oil pan and have them both plugged up so both will be warm when I get ready to leave?
its very simular to a hot water heater. its radiant heating the coolant.
no it does not really heat the oil. but imop you need to be pretty far north to worry about that.
I can start at 0-10* without a heater of any type.
If you're talking about temps down below 0 or so, you can get a stick on oil pan heater. I have one and it helps.
However, I quit using my block and oil pan heater when I switched to 5W-40 oil. I just don't need them and I think the coldest I saw last year was 10 or so.
