Wait for 2015?

I'm getting the itch to get another diesel. I had a 2011 F250 that I kept for two years with no issues but became curious of the Ecoboost and traded in the diesel. Well IMO the Eco hasn't lived up to the fuel mileage hype. My local dealer has a '14 Platinum 250 that I really like but was wondering if I should wait and order a '15 when they are available?

If you were looking to buy would you wait?

I jumped on the '14. Got a great deal on sig truck. I considered waiting for a '15, but I don't like to take the first year of a major mechanical change and don't have enough patience to wait for '16. First years seem to be "buggy" for all makes. The proposed improvements are great on paper though.

Financially I think you will get a better deal on the 14. That is what I would do.

The 14 is what I would do.

Just ordered a 14 because I didn't want to buy the first year change. Plus I got great incentives and everyone tells me the 14's are dialed in great after several updates from the 11's. I sure hope so. Good luck

Everyone is different. For me though, there is NO WAY I would buy a 14 knowing the 15's specs and that it was just a year away. No way no how. I've never been afraid of the first year thing either and never been burned. It's such a small percentage that's to me, it's not worth my time worrying about. Kind of like the HPFP thing. YMMV....

It's not even a year off. It's just a few months. Aren't they showing up in April?

I've had both a 2003 6.0L and a 2011 6.7L Both first year products. Minor problems with the 6.0 and no problems with the 6.7L. So I wouldn't let a few minor changes in the 6.7L scare you away.

But you will get a better price on a 2014. Beside the normal annual price increase. You won't see any incentives/rebates on the 2015 for a long time after they show up.

Probably only 4 months away! As far as being a "first year" model, I wouldn't sweat that. They had 3 years to work the bugs out before I jumped on board with my 2006 6.0 and that didn't seem to make much difference in the end.

2014 model year will definitely be cheaper, but I can't stand buying a truck that is already outdated when I leave the dealer's lot with it. Personally I would pay the extra money to get extra HP of the 2015 as well as a more reliable turbo that provides greater exhaust braking. It is hard to say how the fuel system improvements will pan out, but I would hope that the changes are for the better.

Exactly. Get the newest and it will be current for the longest time.

I agree. Actually the changes are not major and the new turbo design will be even less complicated with less parts. The 2015's will have a larger turbo and minus a waste gate. Engine braking is also improved via the larger turbo. Me personally, I would wait for sure. If I'm not mistaken they will be out in a few months anyways.

Isn't the case that the 450's are out first and the 250's/350's are a bit later?

Agree with most here and would get the 2014. I've been reading this site for years and consider many of the 2011 buys to be 'beta', so I would get the 14 or wait for the 16. Love my 2013!

I've owned several first year models over the years, and have never had any major mechanical issues, but I've always had "bugs" to deal with and made several trips to the dealer during the first few months of ownership. None of them have been high performance Diesels. The only thing that concerns me with this is not the turbo, but rather the fuel system. I hope and believe it is an improvement, but for this one, I would sit the bench for while. Besides, once they finally redo the sheet metal, all of our trucks will be outdated - including the 2015's.

6.7 gen 2 is tempting, but the current motor is already a beast...
