Is there anywhere I can find a fuse box diagram for a 1976 ford econoline van? The turn signals and brake lights aren't working. A guy at the parts store told us that if one bulb was out the circuit would be broken. Is that true. We haven't found a bad bulb. My son needs to take it on a trip to pick up his stuff and we are trying to fix it. Any clues or help out there?

One bulb out means that the electrical circuit or path through that bulb would be broken or in other words open and current can't flow. It doesn't mean that anything other than that bulb is broken and it won't break anything else. The rest of the system should still function. The turn signals and the brake lights are fed by two different fuses. Brakes can be applied anytime (always hot) but the turn signals work only when the key is on. They use the same filament in the bulb. The turn signal switch disconnects the brake light to the side the turn signal is applied.
Sometimes what happens is the emergency flashers are applied when the flasher unit isn't working (or disconnected) which really confuses the turn signal switch. Do the flashers work? If they do, the bulbs and the wiring from the switch are good.
If you have any more questions, just ask. We're here to help.

Welcome to FTE!
Thank you so much! There is a rectangular metal thing in the fuse box as well as the flasher unit which I replaced. Could this be bad or what is it? This all happened when I was trying to hook up a trailer. Also are the black connectors that are bigger than necessary to hook wires together some kind of fusible links? We are going with your fuse box diagram now to check things out. The diagram you sent doesn't show the rectangular metal fuse thing which says 5 lb. 75A D5UBH526AA. Any help would be so appreciated. This diagram looks different...is that for an 76?
Peta and James thank you
Help!! The control valve for my power steering has quit functioning...My Ford truck is a 1976 F250 4x4. I can't find a pitman arm anywhere and I was told the valve is built on??? Also I pulled a trailer the othe day and all turn signal were working but not now. The trailer wires were fried. No flashers either. I had recently had new mufflers and exhust put on and the idiots brought them out the back! My horses won't appreciate that so have to them put off to the side. I just can't see any bad fuses!! Anyway ideas out there? Really really need an answer to the power sterring problem....Thanks in advance!! Joni in Loon Lake, WA

Reason: Left a line out!
Well, the only burnt wires we found were on the trailer. The truck wires are fine. I thought maybe a blown fuse but they all look fine. I will check out more tomorrow. Must be a direct short...I hate wiring!!! Joni

No it is not.[/QUOTE]From your Steering Gear Box you have a "Sector Shaft Arm" that connects to the "Control Valve Assembly" (it is a different part).
I have replaced the seal kit in the power cylinder as it was leaking but I have had no problems with the control valve.
I will post links to diagrams and information for the control valve.

To help you more would I need to know what works and does not work and if you have a test light to trace it out?
