Question headlights

so i have a 99 f250 with aftermarket headlight housing and i want to rig it up to where when i turn my high beams on, the low say on as well.. or id like to swap the flash to pass wires with the high beam which would in the end work the same way.

Think i could get some help on the best way to go about doing this? i can get any wire diagram you would need to help me if you can.
Thanks!

and yes i know this will make the headlight really hot and burn up the housing iv already herd that so dont need to hear it again. i have them both on with the flash to pass all the time and its never messed anything up so far so yeah..

I guess you can get into the column, and at the high/low switch put a jumper on the two red/yellow wires. That way the lowbeams would be on anytime you turn the headlight switch on, the high/low switch would just add the highbeams or not add them.

Try this link: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-lights-2.html

Tons of reading there, most not pertinent to your exact situation but the idea of "forced low beams" is described.

I didn't see much in that link, except the mention of a possible heat problem, which the original poster said he already knows about it. The modification in my first post should work for him if he wants to try it.

What has been discussed many years ago that I haven't seen lately is the problem with how the light is distributed in the front of the vehicle, and the nature of the human eye.

We all know our eyes are continually adjusting themselves to different light levels. One problem with running both the low and high beams together is your distant view. Yes, running both at the same time makes the front of the vehicle birighter, but all the brightness is right in front at a short distance. All this bright light right in front of the vehicle also affects how your eye adjusts to the level of light. When you run the highbeams only, the very front of the vehicle is not as bright, letting your eyes adjust to the light that is out in the distance, giving you better distance viewing.

This came up in a discussion years ago, when I made the comment that my wife's Honda ran both the low and high beams together. When you go to high beam, the low beams stay on, just the high beams are added. If it's good for honda, why not other vehicles? I was reminded that the lenses in the Honda are designed for this, while a American car not designed for this will double the brightness right in front of the car, while the Honda headlights in highbeam mode just add to the distant lighting, not adding to the light in the very front of the car. I went out and tried it and they are right, the honda headlight assembly is made a little different and you do not get the high intensity light right in front of the car when both are on.

Automotive engineers do dumb things sometimes, but most of the time there is a reason why they do certain things a certain way.

actually the new ford vehicles use only a projector type headlight and if you listen to it closely you can hear, when you flip the hi beams on, the shield or what not you want to call it actually moves up so that the once projector light is not just a full bulb.
That probable isnt explained well but maybe you were able to follow..

I have after market housing which is projector and then a high beam and they are both HID and we all know HID lights take a min to warm up so if im going down the road and swap from low to high it takes a min to warm up so im blind for 5 or so seconds.. this is why i want to do it where they both stay on, also the low beams have a very wide spread where the high arent and are just far. I need both :P
