Power steering pump

I know most everyone would go OEM.
What other pumps have you used and have had good luck with ?

Mine has been growling for over a year after i lost a line. i have flushed it twice and it's still loud.

I Finally have some time to get to it.

These trucks have the most annoying steering groan/whine than any other vehicle I've ever driven. Mine irritates me every time I drive it. It just sounds like a heaping pile of **** when turning the steering wheel while parking somewhere. You get people looking at you like, WTF is wrong with that POS?!?!?

Gotta love the power steering FAIL while at a full stop too.

My IDI power steering is as smooth as butter. Zero noise. These trucks = 1999-2003 7.3L PSD.

Same here. It's not real bad. I'm probably the only one who really notices it. It's more prominent when I'm sitting still and/or turning into a parking space. I'd hate to replace it with a reman that is as bad, or worse. As long as it's still functioning ok, I'm leaving well enough alone.

Mine has whined since the day I bought it. The PO (original owner) gave me documentation of dealer service/maintenance stating customer complaint about noisy steering whine. Everything tested normal. Dealer here says it's normal. Every single one I've ever seen parking sounds just like mine. I've searched threads about this here and have asked questions.

The sound it makes while parking is the whine you'd expect at full lock and you keep reefing on the wheel as hard as you can. Normal turning while driving is more of a groaning whine.

Maybe my pump is tired or has been tired its whole life. If there's a pump that's available to stop this, I want it.

My P/S pump has made noises since I have owned the truck. I have flushed the system and that didn't help. It is louder than I would like when I first start it up and at low speeds. It is something I have just learned to live with since everything works just fine. But at one point I was thinking about doing something about it and I heard of guys changing to reman pumps and having the same or louder noises from it.

If you look at the design of these p/s pumps with the stupid plastic pump housing or for that matter look at almost all late model p/s pumps that Ford uses. They seem to me be the same crappy design. Now somewhere I remember someone talking about putting a Saginaw P series pump. OK I found the article I had read. Super Duty Power Steering Upgrade | GTSparkplugs
I wonder if anyone here has ever done this mod??

Aren't our PS pumps the same ones they were using in the 1980's F150 trucks? I know the design is quite old, and likely underpowered for the weight and size of our trucks. Main thing is to try and get as much of the air bubbles out of the PS reservoir when you put new fluid in on a flush or change. That helps significantly reduce the noise, but even then, they can be noisy no matter what.

What about these: http://www.agrperformance.com/Pumps-...otorsports.htm

Are any of those used in a heavy duty application?

Thanks for this link Ed. Interesting read. I too am very interested in upgrading my PS/Brake pump as mine just pooched and if I'm going to spend the money, might as well upgrade as I go.

To second Ed's question, any one try either the PSC system with the Saginaw P-Series pump and larger reservoir with baffles or another alternative that worked successfully for you? ~ Bugjr ~
