Thank you for the reply im pretty desperate for some help. Not sure how to post pics any hints? And here are some of the known problems- battery cables rotted, batteries shot, voltage regulator bad, radiator fan blades bent, busted radiator,fuel/water separator not hooked up, rear tank doesn't work, needs new front end, hit forklift in first week of owning it =(. Now i have ideas for parts just wants some opinions from the guys who have been there done that. Things such as the 3g alternator swap, performance copper radiator, 7000 cfm electric fan conversion, 1000 cca batteries, any advise on best and most reliable brands for these would be great. Truck has banks turbo already installed.

Love the pics, and do you have any idea what the fuel/water separator is for? I mean i get the name but is it necessary? And why would someone have unhooked it?

not sure why someone would unhook it... it has a heater element that heats the diesel prior going to ip to ail in starting.... the filter seperates water from diesel.... in my case i now have a one peice fuel filter spin on instead of the old 2 part combo and it funitions as it should diesel used to leak out of the top the the filter houseing but i replaced the orings and it never leaked again. in your case it probally leaks at the same spot.... you womt know till you hook it back up.... heres are directions on how to fix it... im into runing everything stock with no mods or very little lol if i dont like i mod i put it back the way it was.... to me i like to take something and make it stock as can be....

A lot of what you seek can be found in the excellent FAQ at the top of the page... including this superb write up on wiring in a 3G alternator...

The 6.9's have a water sep. and a fuel filter. The water sep. are notorious for air intrusion. Most are bypassed including mine. Just change your fuel filter more often. Or do the mod. for the aftermarket WIX head and filter/sep.

Agreed, mine is also bypassed. I change my fuel filter everytime I do an oil change. Every 3000 miles or 3 months, this is what I have done on my other diesels as well . Yes it is more money up front but at least you know you'll be getting clean fuel, the price of a $15 filter is cheaper than a injection pump..
