Have either of you consulted the dealer or a well established Radio/Car Audio dealer.
Most Car Audio can do this easy. Remember the old Neon dayz??
I am pitiful with electrical stuff.
I have called a few dealers over both the running board lights and upgrading the mirrors, they all basically told me the same thing about the BCM possibly not accepting the axtra lights, that being said there is not much that a car audio dealer can do either.
Read through these posts. This should get you on the right track. I installed led strips the length of my running boards and connected them to the courtesy time out circuit with no issues. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-time-out.html
Thanks for this info 6.2gasser, I will probably have to read over that thread a time or two to get my hollow head wrapped around it, I can hook up lights no problem, but when it comes to using the factory time out circuit, or anything in or under the dash I get discouraged easily.
No problem, I know exactly what you mean. Reading through the thread made me feel comfortable enough to complete the job. I am very pleased with the outcome. In fact, I get comments all the time on the led strip lights when I unlock the truck or open the doors. Not only passengers in my truck , but people walking by in the grocery store parking lot, the service writer at the dealership, you name it. It is a must upgrade in my opinion. Good luck!!
I have limited experience with automotive electrical work and decided at the last minute to use a relay for a cheap set of fog lights on the front of my truck. Worked out perfectly and with the relay, it's as if they aren't even there -- electrically speaking.
ditto on the relay...you can fuse the additional circut easily.
