I've always found EBAY completed listings to be of use when trying to figure out what a used vehicle is worth, you get pics etc. Anything you're trying to sell is only worth what people are willing to pay for it, regardless of what others say. Here, for example are the sold listings for Ford Excursions that are diesels:

Seeing some of those prices makes me really happy with what I paid for mine!

I paid 15k for my 2003 with 104000 miles. Motor had been bulletproofed by previous owner after he got scared reading reports of 6.0's failing.

Yes, previous owner was a customer of ours with too many toys. His barn of toys was incredible!

Yah that is a hell of a deal. Ok dealer found issues with balljoints, steering damper, steering gearbox, drag link and needs a four wheel alignment, rear brake pads are at 3mm, front are at 10mm.

Dealer quoted (parts and labor) $800 for the gearbox, $505 for the damper, $300 for drag link

Didn't get quote for balljoints or brake pads. So the negotiation continues.

You are at $14 K now?

Go to $10,863 and settle for $11,400.

BOOM BAM

Hopefully it's that simple. Right now he's trying to figure out how much it will cost him to fix it. I'd rather upgrade the components so we'll see what happens.
