Yeah, the no clutch was obvious. I'm just apparently slow, but you wouldn't need an aftermarket stick for an automatic, right? If the steering column shifter broke I'd get it, but how does the stick shift with no clutch? (Sorry if I'm an idiot, but. ..)
If you didn't have a stick how would you shift it through the different ranges? The floor shift conversion shifts it from P-R-N-D-L just like a column shift.

Ah... Stick shift (Manual) versus shift lever (auto). I was assuming it was a gear shifter (1,2,3, not a drive lever (PNDR). This is how we learn I guess. Thanks.
Sorry for the confusion. Yes, Stake-bed, not "stick bed." I'm obviously new at this.
The previous photo was of a similiar truck as I didn't have the photos of the truck with me. Here are a few shots of the 65'. The seller says it's one of 148 built (likely not something that can be proven) and has the following info: "has the original big 6 cylinder with factory automatic trans."
It looks like a six to me, but let me know what's real if you can tell.
I still don't get how an "automatic" can have a shifter. That is a stick shifter I see, right?
I drove one delivering parts nearly 40yrs ago. I remember the corners to be more square.. But again that was nearly 40yrs ago . .

Thats true, I'm glad you learned something, we should all try to learn something new everyday. At my age I still learn something new everyday but I may forget it by tomorrow
Is the overall feel that it's a decent truck? I'm afraid I have little knowledge as to fair price, good deal, don't buy that piece of junk. I'm a woodworker in my spare time, so fixing the bed is easy. They say it runs well, but who knows. I'm going to go look at it again. Getting a first truck... exciting and then again hoping to avoid a mistake.

If your knowledge about these old trucks isn't that good spend the time and money to have a mechanic check it out for you. Better to spend a little and then lose a lot if you end up with a piece of crap..

Any suggestions on finding a good mechanic? I'm in NC. I know a few, but none that are great with older vehicles. Also, the truck isn't local, so having a mechanic travel with me...expensive, if even agreed to.

Sorry, can't help in NC. You might possibly find an old timer with an independent shop in the area where the truck is. If you go anywhere and they call their mechanics technicians keep going
