e40d top off question

I was wondering who all has topped off their e40d with the new Motorcraft Mercon 5 fluid? I have allready read all the posts about the problems people were having when they were changing their fluid and using Mercon 5 and the ones that topped off with it. There was even TSB that stated to only use Mercon. Now another TSB states that servicing of the Ford Transmission will be serviced with Mercon 5.

So, my F150 has 60K miles and needs a little fluid. I purchased a quart of Motorcraft Mercon 5 and it reads being compatible with Mercon.

I know I would rather do an entire fluid change with Mercon 5 but that is out of the question right now.

So is it ok to top off with this new Mercon 5 fluid that was first not compatible with Mercon but now is? Yes the bottle says compatible I was just wondering what other people were doing and what their thoughts were. Like I said above, I have allready read old post and TSB. Im just wondering what some current thoughts are from other Ford owners who are topping off with the New redesigned Motorcraft Mercon 5.

your reading very old material.mercon 5 shouldn't be called "new" any longer.it has long since surpassed mercon and met (and exceeded) it specs.back several years ago, there was an issue but that was cleared up back then.your back in like '07 or somewhere near this brother.this no longer applies.pour mercon 5 in your e40d with confidence.what should be of concern isn't using mercon or mercon 5 as much as you haven't changed it since at least '07.

Yeah your right that it needs changed however it is really clean fluid.

It was just all those posts I read that kinda scared me. And I did infact read the TSB that read that the transmissions would be serviced with Mercon 5.

I guess I was just looking for reassurance that the Motorcaft fluid Mercon 5 was fine for topping off a transmission filled with Mercon. The reassurance is appreciated! Thanks..
