Sorry , I was a bit lacking on my suggestion. You were on the exhaust stroke, you need to rotate the crank one more revolution to bring number one up to TDC on the firing stroke, then check for zero degrees on the damper.
Mark
If it was almost exactly across from the #1 terminal on the exhaust stroke, it should be near 0 on the compression stroke. I'm guessing the SPOUT system is the culprit. Check the condition of the connections and wires.
Even though you were on the exaust stroke your timing mark should have read close to zero. it is still telling you that you are at TDC just on the exaust not the intake stroke. the crank turns only 2 times to the cam/distributers 1 time. so if you were at the tope of the stroke then you should have been at 0 on your marks. BTW stupid question but are you sure you are checking with the #1 cylider??
lol, wouldn't that be the ticket if I was using the wrong cylindar. NO, I actually think I have the right one, right next to the power steering pump basically...but its just like something little like that to cause a big problem.
OK, I redid the test on the firing stroke and the rotor turned out to be pointing at the #1 terminal like it should but my damper was way off. It looked as much off as my timing was showing....I spose the damper could have spun but what would be causing my bad vibrations? IM still looking at that SPOUT connector and seeing what possible problems I could have.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Jun-02 AT 08:30 PM (EST)]Did you say by the power steering pump? You are joking right? that is number 5 number 1 is front passenger side. should be closer to the alternator or battery. if you are reading of number 5 it will definatly be advanced since that is the next one in your firing order.
lol, yeah, it goes #1-#4 on the passenger side and #5 through #8 on drivers side. I think my timing light was screwed up because I borrowed a friends and it was runing about 20-22 advanced, then I just tamed it down back to 10. Mine is already in the garbage. But the vibration problem still exists, just it hasn't been really bad lately. Right now it feels like an exhaust resonance which I have never had much of even with my dual exhaust. Maybe I hit some water when It was good and hot. About the time it started it was raining out. And maybe I could of had a little preignition too. But anyway, I think I will just change the plugs once again (2nd time in 700miles) and leave it at that. I guess its not to anoying that I can't live with it. Thanks so much guys, there is so much willing help on this board if someone ever has a question. Its just great.
