Any one else have wild dog problems ? I live in the sticks . Just went out to grab something out of the truck . They were raising heck in my back field . Going to set up a blind and bait , start shooting them again . Neighbor lost a few calves . What do y'all do ?
Shoot them. Around here they are known to breed with some dogs. I know a guy that has killed a couple coy-dogs (that's what we refer to cross-breeds) that were as big as German Shepherds.
My Dad has lost a few calves to the Black Vultures. Those are close to buzzards, but if you get a good look at their head, it is a very dark gray. They will kill young animals. Attack the eyes first. A tell-tail sign they killed the animal.

I have a friend that keeps a scatter gun on his 4 wheeler . He has to keep the buzzards away from his calves at times !He is 83 now .The game warden asked him what he was doing one time , while he was hunting buzzards . The game Warden then left , muttering that he heard nothing ! I am about to start shooting wild dogs again . I shot 30 in one day in the 80's with a calf in a cage for bait !
I used to live out in the sticks. I had 22 acres that backed up to national forest land and had cattle land on the other 3 sides.
You could hear the cyotes howling every night. One day I come home from work and my black lab was gone. I searched for her but couldn't find her anywhere.
Weeks later I saw her and some other dogs on my property. I didn't recognize the other dogs, and they looked kinda scruffy , so I didn't think they belonged to anyone around there.
I managed to get my lab to come to me but the other dogs wouldn't come anywhere near me. So I put her on a chain, hoping she'd stay around after a few days of being on the chain.
I was wrong, no sooner had I let her off the chain, she was gone again. Months later I saw her and several more dogs way off in the distance, and only for a few minutes, I called her name several times but I couldn't get her attention.
My lab became one of the pack of wild strays. I ended up losing my house and all to forclosure a few years later, but I never saw her or the other dogs in those last years, so I don't know whatever happened to any of them. Maybe they moved on, or possibly got trapped or killed.
I do not like to kill an animal unless it is to be food . I , however , Will kill to protect my Friends , Family and property . I have before , and will again .
We have a bit of a problem with me here, almost hit a couple on my way home from work one night. It used to be common practice to shoot em whenever they came onto ones property and the local PD and sheriffs never had any issues with it till recently. Some ****** heard what he thought was a wild dog trying to get to his livestock and began firing blindly into the woods at the sound. It ended up being a father playing paintball with his four young sons.
Idiots with firearms give gun owners a bad name . I always have a sight plan when I fire a weapon . If an intruder comes into the house ? Scatter gun don't reach the neighbors a mile away .
We use to have some issues, every now and then when the coyotes get to close to the house or my live stock 22 mag a few shots to move them further back into the Grapes and Almonds they do hunt golfers witch is good for most farmers but when little kids get involved Coyotes are shot. back in the day there pelt was worth 20 bucks I made money all day long and had fun doing it. Wild Dogs shoot them they are more inclined to hurt man and child when running in a large pack.
Well I live pretty close to the local golf course and I've not had any issues with golfers coming on to my yard yet! Those pesky gophers though can make a mess haha
coyotes around here are pretty darned smart. You won't be just shooting them like a stray dog that used to be someone's pet. If they see or smell you first,it's over. People do run them with dogs or use calls to lure them in,but it isn't real easy because they are very wary of people. I have had success shooting them out of the stand I deer hunt in,but even then, you better see them before they get within 200 yards, because they will see/smell you first and be gone.
