I use mobil1 full synthetic for all fluids. It costs a little more initially but doesnt need changing nearly as often. And the inside of my engine looks like new.
Damn lucky you. Ha the 10w40 I have in my truck is considered "engine honey" up here. There are days when its so cold that even that tries to keep the engine from turning over.
The Amsoil is real nice full synthetic which helps the cold weather characteristics a lot, the 20w50 pours more like 10w40, but it builds oil pressure like 20w50. It's pretty cool stuff!
I think I'll use the 10w40 next time I change the oil.
Hmm that is pretty cool! Right now I'm waiting with changing my oil...I just changed it roughly a month ago so its pretty new. Gotta love winter time though. Even our spare jeep and my moms caravan have issues with their oil (5w30) gumming up.
Engine Oil: Shell Rotella T 15W40. Newer car oils lack the zinc extreme pressure additives our flat tappet cam engines need to stay healthy. Zinc is hard on catalytic converters so it came out. Diesel engine oil has it, Mobile 1 20w-50 has it, classic car oils like Joe Gibbs have it or you can buy ZDDP (zinc) supplement for regular car oil. (Google). You are looking for 1100-1300 PPM zinc for a mild flat tappet engine. Current car oil has ~600-700 PPM. I like the Rotella because its readily available and not too expensive. I have used Rotella 5w40 synthetic for extreme cold weather.
Transfer Case (gear type): 80w-90 gear lube. Parts store brand.
