Non-dent but Ford question
Here is what I posted:
Hey guys--
I have an `02 Cavalier that I might be trading for an `89 Bronco--straight up. I need advice as to whether of not this is a good idea/deal.
I know my rig is in top mechanical shape: runs well, no leaks, no problems at all.
The other guy is very cool and has revealed all the problems with his rig:
4x4 motor is out (is this easy to replace?), leaking steering box (scares me the most), couple of window motors out--no biggie to me. New brakes and good tires on it. Paint's not great but either is mine.
I will also be cutting my mpgs in half. The Cavy gets close to 30 and the Bronco will be about half that. I live one mile away from work so I don't really care.
I am a Ford guy. I have a `76 F-100 2wd with a 390 in it. I rebuilt the truck all last year.
Just looking for general advice for the transaction.
Thanks.
Addition: Steering box fix--how difficult is that?
Thanks for any help, dent guys.
he mentions problems but are they all of them of just what he knows
Second seems like you will have at leastsome work to do, so I wouldn't trade straight couple hundred your way
You like getting something that has a few other easy fixable problems already, but is at least 4x4 and a Ford.....
And since you are a Ford guy that drives a (02 Cavalier) lol sorry I had to, but has more stuff to go wrong (see 4x4 statement above) and get worse MPG, I'd say go for it cause....
You can tow with a Bronco, haul more stuff in the back, attend a tailgate party as long as the rear window works?? Can haul more buddies to the bar, go 4 wheeling afterwards

Be full fledged Ford owner, and park both vehicles out in front of your house proudly. And the guy is cool and has revealed all the problems with his rig (that you know of) so we know he won't lie about anything, but at least you live a mile from work in case he did.
Steering box is hopefully one of 2 seals that is replaceable and maybe with the box still installed on the truck? Or some Lucas P/S stop leak.
I would rather push a Bronco than drive a 02 Cavalier, sorry had to again, lol.
I don't like the fact that the engine is out. 302? Do you know or has the guy stated why was it pulled in the first place? There's got to be a reason!
The other potential negative is missing parts & hardware.... I hate taking up projects which exudes a lack of organization.
Its an 89 what do I know, I know on a Bronco the rear window better work or you can't drop the tailgate.
). The 4x4 actuator motor is what is not working. The vehicle has 54,000 original miles on it, less that half as much as the Cavy. It has 130k approximately. I'd like to have bigger rig just because. I'm 6'4" and the Cavy is a little small, but the mileage is good.
I have a feeling that something's off though: the Bronco is worth more and has fewer miles on it. Could better MPGs really make this trade worthwhile for the guy?

Like it has overheated once or twice or has no oil pressure but I drive it anyway... A few window motor go out with 54,000 on it?? Wiring issues?
Might not be that good an idea, like I said you at least know your car, chebby or not you know its issues (none).
